Generally after 90 or 120 days, depending upon their policy. Why not call the Dr. and set up a payment plan. I am $30,000.00 in debt after 3 surgeries. If you set up a plan - say $50.00 per mo and you make the payments on time and don`t miss a payment, in most states, they cannot put you in collection. Most will want to work with you. Thanks to our non-functioning economy, MANY are in the same boat. Call them, be polite, and work something out. It is way better than ruining your credit score.

I know in GA the attorney on the opposing side will go to the judge and ask for a CONTEMPT ORDER to be placed against you.I also know that the attorney can ask for,and usually get,a warrent for your arrest.

A summons means you must appear in court as outlined on the summons, regardless of what you pay. A judge has ordered to see you. Not appearing will lead to the issuing of a warrant for your arrest. ANY contact with the police or other agencies will require that they take you into custody. Why not pay the bill if you can, or set up a payment plan and get it in writing by e-mail. Go to the summons, show the judge and see what happens. If they see a good faith effort, they are more likely to be understanding than if you ignore what is required of you.

Not paying a bill affects your credit rating and will make institutions less likely to loan you money. If the amount of money was very large, there could be more serious issues. If you are an American citizen, you can enter this country whenever you want...but call an attorney in the US or Legal Aid (reduced or free legal advice). If it were me, I would go to Legal Aid, open a case and see what your "status" is - what the hospital you did not pay did with the case. Why wonder and "look over your shoulder"? Look up Legal Aid, find out and take charge of your life.
