The foreclosure process can be started as quickly as 30 days after the loan is considered in default.
banks will not foreclose on you until you have missed 3 payments.
After the foreclosure is filed within a few months (depending on the backlog of foreclosure filings in the system)
a "sheriff`s sales" is conducted at the county courthouse.
This process can be delayed if you are in constant contact with your bank but in general you can expect this sale to go through within 6 months.
Once the sheriff`s sale has proceeded there are 2 possibilities depending on your state.
The first is that an eviction is processed and begins within a few weeks of the sale.
The second possibility is that your state allows for a redemption period which is like a last chance to avoid losing the home.
During the redemption period the homeowner can work to refinance the loan,
try to sell the home or begin building a savings for when they will will be evicted after the redemption period expires.
