The picture quality on blu ray is amazing and so is the sound quality.
These are great upgrades.
But there is a dark side to blu ray dvd player ownership.
First of all,
if you want to back up your blu ray discs to your hard drive you can forget it.
The DRM on blu rays has much harder encryption to break than existing DVD technology.
On top of that your blu ray players can be "poisoned" by special instructions stored on commercial Blu-ray discs.
If the AACS-LA is able to determine that a particular player is open to hack they put a special code onto the discs that will stop blu ray players from authenticating new discs.
This can be a royal pain in the butt especially if you are not tech saavy and you are unable to update your drive or player firmware regularly.
There won`t be a new technology to overtake blu ray anytime soon but this DRM issue is one that needs your full attention before making a purchase.
