I would also try to make payments to the hospital. Don`t even mess with the collection agency. Research Hipaa laws in your state. Also visit http://www.creditboards.com. Generally after 90 or 120 days, depending upon their policy. Why not call them and set up a payment plan. I am $30,000.00 in debt after 3 surgeries. If you set up a plan - say $50.00 per mo and you make the payments on time and don`t miss a payment, in most states, they cannot put you in collection. Most will want to work with you. Thanks to our non-functioning economy, MANY are in the same boat. Call them, be polite, and work something out. It is way better than ruining your credit score.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. I HAD 3 BILLS FOR BETWEEN 200.00 AND 1000.00 I WAS MAKING PAYMENTS ON ALL 3 BUT HOSPITAL SENT ME TO COLLECTION. SAYING THEY ONLY BILL ME 3 TIMES THEN THEY DONT CARE AND SEND YOU TO COLLECTION AGENCY. I HAD TRIED THEIR PAYMENT PLAN AND SLREADY HAD A PAYMENT OF 75.00 PER MONTH. NOW THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP IT OUT OF COLLECTION IS TO UP THAT PAYMENT TO 191.00 PER MONTH . SEEMS LIKE A BIG JUMP FOR UNDER 2000.00 IN ADDITIONAL BILLS ADDED. THEY WONT HELP ME ANY OTHER WAY. NICE. CANT AFFORD TO BE SICK.

no :), if you are making the minimum payments they should not send your account to creditors, you`d be surprised how long they will take to send it even when you pay nothing, but your best bet is to pay the min if you can afford it. I don`t know how true this is but I have heard that if you pay just 1 dollar every month they still cannot send it.

Foreclosure process usually starts after 90 -120 days from the date your late payment starts, when a notice of default is recorded which is the initialization of foreclosure process. In California, bank starts the foreclosure process 90 -120 days after you miss your first payment, but in practical terms the foreclosure process will not begin until you miss your third payment. The non-judicial foreclosure starts with recording a notice of default in day1 after your payment is considered late, then within 10 days you will receive the notice of default and after 3 months, the lender can request the borrower to set a sale date.
